While I love living in the mountains, I do love reconnecting with friends in the big cities and over the past two weeks I was lucky enough to visit two.
I headed over to San Francisco for the Mission Crit with my friend and teammate Cooper Ray. We both raced the Crit and I raced my first Alley Cat. For those of you that don't know what an Alley Cat is, its basically a race through rush hour traffic without brakes where you need to hit certain checkpoints - first one back wins. It was a bit wild racing through traffic without brakes, but I can't wait to do my next one.
Since I had never been to SF, I particularly enjoyed great coffee scene and cycling from one one great coffee shop to the next. It reminds me of my time living in London.
Headed back to NYC and spent some time at the homebase for our race team Deluxe Cycles.
I raced the Red Hook Crit which was one of the first brakeless fixed gear crits. I was lucky enough to miss out on all of the crashes this year. Last year I was not as lucky and crashed in my second lap of qualifying causing me to be off the bike for many weeks. For those of you that know me that was very difficult. I wish everyone, including my teammates, caught up in the crashes a speedy recovery.
